Aspect Ratio

Why in Heaven's name was this movie framed at 1.33:1 (full screen) on DVD. It looked absolutely ghastly panned and scanned. It's so confusing trying to work out what's going on without the full picture. What baffles me is why not have the widescreen version on one side of the disc and the fullscreen on the other.

Yup, for such an awesome film, full-frame does suck.

From what I hear, there was a widescreen DVD issued - but only in France (probably due to Christopher Lambert's involvement).

Have tried unsuccessfully to acquire this version. Hopefully someday we will get a high quality DVD Widescreen Version (with cast commentary that would be awesome).

I've been impressed with MGM's efforts to release films previously issued in inferior versions on DVD in Superior Image Quality versions and have upgraded my collection with every release they put out.

MGM - Maybe you should put this one on your list! OR SOMEONE SHOULD. This is an amazing film with a lot of laughs and action. Soundtrack rocks, too!

French DVD is 2.35:1 anamorphic, but dubbed into French (no English language track option).

The Japanese laserdisc is 2.35:1, English track, but with Japanese subtitles.

Movie really needs to be seen 2.35:1; it's the only way you can ever get enough time to actually read the sin cards.
