Michael Winslow as Ensign Parker

Nothing against David Alan Grier, but it sure would have helped, IMHO, if Michael had been able to act in this movie. But, checking the database, Michael was doing "Police Academy: The Series" at the time. But.. what are you thoughts?

I think David Alan Grier was fine. But I didn't like how dumbed down his character had to be, same goes for the captain. What the hell did they do to Dean Stockwell's voice? There's better, more subtle comedy in having someone who in outward appearances seems competent who is wholly unable to do their job otherwise.

I like Stockwell in other things so I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt here and assume the director is responsible for Stockwell carrying on that sad Joe Flynn impersonation throughout the movie.

FWIW this is one of my least favorite '60's era sitcom turned into a movie in the '90s. I was never a big fan of the original series to begin with, but it always seemed to me that it needed to be set in the Pacific Islands theater of operations during WWII. It was deeply rooted in a specific time and place, and it should have stayed there.
