Two stupid cops or was it the screenwriter

Cop tells the mother of the dead daughter as soon as she opens the door, "I'm sorry you're daughter is dead". Just like that, no warning or asking to be invited inside the house and then has the audacity to interview the poor mother without a second to grieve. What pathetic screenwriting or do some cops actually act like this?

I doubt there is any easy or good way to break it, and by holding out on it, they were letting her effectively assume that her daughter had been found alive.

There is a good way to break it, and thats with compassion and timing. Even his partner gave him a dirty look on the way he delivered it. Anyway, the mother never even knew her daughter was missing, let alone dead so there is no excuse.

Hopefully that is not they way it REALLY happened!! It was crazy how he just blurted it out like that!! I assumed (I hope I'm right, anyway) that they just did that for the movies sake... There's def like a million better ways to break the news to a parent that their child is dead!
