Was Giles idea for the screenplay really 'brilliant'?
It didn't seem so to me; quite the contrary, it sounded like a rip-off of The Miracle Worker and/or Tommy. Any thoughts?
For who would bear the whips and scorns of Hollywood... (;-p)

I thought the idea was completely lame but maybe in the hands of good writers, actors and directors, it could be turned into something that seemed original and arresting.
shareI don't think the plot idea was that far off. More of a "Being There" idea, than "The Miracle Worker". I've never set through "Tommy", because I can't endure the music for 2 hours.
Giles' idea might have carried more weight if he had brought along some of his published novels, and suggested a screen adaptation of one of them, with Ronnie in a starring role. Whether that would be possible, would depend on the subject matter, and whether a main character would be suitable for Ronnie. The film doesn't give us any insight into Giles' novels, so it's difficult to speculate along those lines.
