this movie is criminally underrated!

I saw this movie when it was first released in 1997 at the cinema and I thought it was amazing. Full of action, humour, a brilliant conclusion with a dinosaur running amok in the city, thrilling action sequences, what more could you want?

A few years later I googled it and discovered it had mostly terrible reviews so I rewatched expecting the worst and figured that I must have only liked in it 1997 cos I was an undiscerning teenager.

But no. Movie still holds up well and I think it is much better than Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World. Jurassic Park III was far too short and lacked any huge finale or big fight and while World was better than III it was still not as good as this. Why do people hate on it so much?

Definition of troll on IMDb - anyone who expresses a view different to mine.

I didn't like this movie in 1997 and I was a child obsessed with JP. To this day I still find it mediocre

Could not have said it better myself.

Agreed. This is an excellent sequel, and the only other JP film I consider canon.

Spielberg directs the hell out of it and maximises the tension by cueing your imagination with incredible sound design - the approach of the dinosaurs is frightening, then you only see them sparingly - T-Rex heads through glass before any full body shots, and when those appear the effects put modern CGI to absolute shame.

The only downsides of the film are slightly awkward pacing - they clearly cut out a load of scenes with Ajay, for example, who is referred to as if he’s Roland’s life partner but we barely meet the guy, and where did Vince Vaughn disappear to in the last act? That last act feels pretty tacked on as well, it’s great but plays almost like a separate short film. Finally, why the hell does Jeff Goldblum have a 100% black daughter..?? Looks like some early wokery from Spielberg 🤦🏻‍♂️

Lost World can’t compete with the first film but it’s got tons going for it. The raptor scenes alone are masterclasses in action set-pieces.

I don't really love this movie, but I enjoy it enough and will certainly defend it against it's militant detractors where necessary.

I would've preferred a more closer adaptation of Michael Crichton's original novel though, that was a riveting read.

i think 2nd Best After The OG Jurassic Park features my favorite Dinosaur The Stegosaurus prominently I think Fallen Kingdom is better than Dominion and World it takes 3 spots after JP & TLW JP in my rankings.

Agreed . Have loved it since it came out. I would not consider watching any of the ones that came after again. The first 2 are all the jp i need. Kinda like t1 and t2.
