Johnny Depp's Cameo

Johnny Depp has a few weird and funny cameos in this movie as a poster on a wall that comes to life for 2 seconds and later in the movie the main character ends up meeting with him after a fictional conversation they both had all in the guy's head....its a smart cameo choice from Depp...out of all these hollywood over-exposed celeberties his the only one i like....he has become a famous actor yet somewhat still holds on to his authentcity and originality in choosing characters to play in films.

In the book, it was actually Jack Nicholson he met, but he didn't have a talking poster of him. Was a good book actually, so different from the film.

Did you know that Johnny Depp made the comeo for free. He was so eager to be in a Mika Kaurismäki film that he didn´t want to accept any salary for his acting.

reply

Eager to be in a Mika Kaurismäki movie....? Dont thinks so.

so you're johnny depp?

The Johnny Depp Cameo is in character as he appears in the movie of DEAD MAN, of Jarmush. I wonder if they are scenes of the movie or cut scenes, or if he made them specially for L.A. without a Map.

oh ok, so at the cemetery he's in the character from dead man? Then at the theater or w/e is he johnny depp? his cameo kind of confused me

reply

I was told he was in this movie as a favour to Vincent Gallo because they made friends while making Arizona Dream, but i dont know if thats true.

It's not like the movies, they fed us on little white lies

Johnny Depp in fact is a fan of the Kaurismäki brothers. He met Mika at a film festival and told Mika that he wanted to be in one of his movies. Mika Kaurismäki was holding a paper napkin and told Depp to eat the napkin if he really wanted to appear in his film (presumably as a joke). Depp then followed the order and actually ate the napkin and ended up cameoing in LA Without Map.

And that's a true story! Depp has also expressed his desire to appear in Aki's movie also, but this is unlikely to happen as Aki does mainly domestic stuff these days.

He's actually in it. He sits on a park bench with David Tennant and they eat fried chicken. It's fairly awesome. And there's another scene that he's actually in, too. It's not just cut in from other stuff.

"Doing a cameo for free" is redundant. The very definition of a cameo is someone taking a small role, or making a brief appearance, in a film without either a credit or payment.

reply

That's funny about Nicholson. There was a brief bit with a Nicholson look alike. Homage to the book, I suppose.
