Really liked this

Maybe it helps having no expectations (first saw it on late-night cable), and it's also probably tied to being the same age as the characters/actors in the film (there were a lot of generation X generational angst films made around this time, as our generation was turning 30). But in general, I found this a very sweet and simple film, with good tunes, and a nice basic story line, that can speak to pretty much anyone.

My generation is a fairly restless one, and I can certainly identify with the Burns character, taking off to try new places, and returning home periodically. And we can all identify, I think, with Claudia's character somewhat. Either you've struck out on your own to see what's out there, or part of you wishes you had.

I also liked the blue-collar, working-class setting, and the seaside town.

It might not be for everyone, but I really liked it. Surprised it did quite as poorly as it did box-office wise, but it was clearly a sundance-type film, especially with Redford producing it. Definitely superior to "Brother's McMullen", and comparable to "She's the One."

Worth checking out for any gen X'er who doesn't mind a quiet, laid-back exploration of love, relationships, and life examination. (Especially if you can appreciate Lauren Holly, who's always been a cutie.)

I liked this movie and loved your post. You nailed us Xers, and so does Edward Burns. Thanks for posting.
