Young girs to Jeremy Irons: "Lolita is our favorite movie!"

So Irons was on the Nerdist podcast, and when Hardwick asked him which movie from his filmography is the one people talk about the most when they meet him, he revealed two titles: Die Hard 3 and, that's right, Lolita.

Thing is, and Irons mentions how uncomfortable that makes him, most of the people telling him how much they love Lolita are actually, as he says, "attractive young girls". It is indeed kinda weird (or is it, considering today's wild and crazy younger generation) and Irons himself says that it "always throws me a bit".

It's good to know that Lolita 1997 has a fanbase, but unfortunately for Irons the fans of the movie he meets are apparently NOT from the target audience. Still, I'm pretty sure he's quite proud of the movie.

The term "attractive young girls" when your Iron's age is more likely to mean 20-year-old young women than 14-year-old adolescents. I wouldn't bet most 14-year-old girls today are really that all familiar with "Lolita", either the movies or the book.

I might call Shailene Woodley or Adele Exarchopolous "attractive young girls". But if I were a famous actor who had played Humbert Humbert, and one of them wanted to me to autograph her butt, my only question would be: should I use a pen or a sharpie?

Hmm, good point. Never thought about that. Maybe you're right.

But I have to say, when I went to the Facebook page of both this movie and the older Kubrick version, I discovered that a lot of very young girls have posted comments and reviews. So I wouldn't completely rule out the possibility of 14to18-year-old girls saying to Irons that Lolita is their favorite movie. Especially when you also consider how girls that age act on Instagram for example. You can't go there without stumbling upon a video of a very young girl acting all 'seductive' and 'sexy'. Very Lolita-like.

It's quite disturbing actually.
