Was 'Ruby don't take your love to town' performed by Cake's John McCrea?

I noticed while I was flipping channels and I heard the song and it sounds exactly like the copy I have by Cake. It is not mentioned in credits but that has to be Cake's John McCrea. He has a very distinctive voice. Dammit now I want to go see Cake.

I'd say that's a BIG possibility, considering it was released on a B-Sides and Rarities comp in 2005. The soundtrack is full of amazing alternative acts from that era.
