i don't get it, what problem does mary have?

so i got that guys weren't getting hard ons with her, but why? what was she doing, and why was she always in the side saddle position? where they trying to say its a difficult position or it doesn't turn guys on. why is she so unresponsive in bed?

the great thing about this movie was the honesty, must people are unhappy b/c of themselves and continue abandoning other people blaming it on them, this movie really showed that we are selfish and don't change anything about ourselves, these people had the same problems with everyone, i just didn't understand her problem, so please help b/c i really enjoyed this movie and this part is bugging me.

First off I'm surprised no one has responded sooner, it just proves that not enuff ppl have seen this movie yet. It's a shame because I personally feel it's a jem.

In response to your question you pretty much hit the nail on the head. All of them were screwed up in their own way and they all carried this baggage with them into other relationships. Like you said instead of showing up as a complete independent person, they show up as quite the oposite and expect their partners to complete them. I think this was true of every character including Mary. Also the yearning for acceptance and approval seemed a constant theme as well. I think in her case she just wasn't emotionally available much like her husband. She also wasn't sure what she wanted. It seemed like she wanted safety and security but at the same time yearned for some excitement, something different then the same old missionary position if you will. But I also think her problem is she's just not a happy person to begin with. Even when it seemed like she finally got what she wanted in the end she still didn't seem happy. I think she was a highly depressed person.

An interesting observation to make and also something that this movie points out is when she did stray, how she strayed. You noticed she didn't go too far, in other words she stayed within the same circle of 'friends and neighbors'. I think this was done on purpose to show that while she did want something new and exiting she did not want to leave the comfort and security of what she had which seems to be a common theme for a lot of women like her.

~What if this is as good as it gets!~

She probably got all weird'd out with Ben's Character, because he analyzes and talks to much. He didnt excite her like she thought he would have. He might have gotten nervous or maybe she didnt excite him once they got to the hotel. She probably felt guilty, which is why she told him to leave.

At the end you see her with Cary(the a**hole) and she was holding the watch, and he takes it and throws it and says Ill buy you another one. Seems like this is the only girl he seems to like.
