what other similar films?

I love this movie. But i need help. many years ago, i saw a movie similar to this one. It was so long ago, that i forgot the title (i am a middle aged man) and i forgot the actors/ actresses. there was a young girl who became a nanny or babysitter and took care of a youngster (i think it was a baby girl); then the youngster died which devastated the young girl.

could anybody there know the title of that movie. i would appreciate it because i want to buy or watch it again. sorry, that i simply could not remember much about the film so i could not give more clue. i just remember that it was so touching.

anyway, also, if you can give me some movie titles with similar themes/ subject matter as this one, i would appreciate it.

thank you very much. Pardon my English as i am not a native speaker, again thank you.

'Ushpizin' an israeli movie about ultra-orthodox jews (Hasidic also), although far less schmaltzy and sappy. Besides the characters are believable, realistically depicted, not caricaturized as they are in 'Left Luggage'.

'Everything is Illuminated'. Kinda similar movie too, since the main plot revolves around a young jewish man traveling from USA to Ukraine in order to discover his lost roots. Good movie.

'A Stranger Among Us'. Sydney Lumet's film is also about a gentile that discovers the more "human" side of the hasidic jews. So-so flick.

'A Serious Man'. The latest film directed by the Coen Brothers. It has some points in common with this film but they're seen from a quite different perspective. The Coen Bros uses dark comedy and absurdism instead of sentimentalism and sheer melodrama.

There you have. Right now I can't remember any other.

Cheers.

Although it's better than Left Luggage(the larger budget probably has a lot to do with that) it still has the same problems - much too saccharine. The heavily stereotyped characters don't make either one all that palatable as well.

I don't know the name of the film you're looking for, but other films similar to Left Luggage, similar as in Jewish characters question their identity and their degree of immersion - for better and for worse - in Jewish culture and religiosity, with an ultra-Orthodox/Haredi backdrop - Israeli films - Hofshat Kaits (My Father My L-rd) (2007)Kadosh (1999)Einaym Pkuhot (Eyes Wide Open) (2009)Ushpizin (2004)Adama Meshuga'at (2006) AndA Price Above Rubies (1998)
