I have a question regarding Trent and his backround.

Theres a point on the film where he runs over a dog and puts him out of misery, but he basically runned over the dog on purpose. Some might say, his anger towards the community and its owner is what triggered it. But then again, near the end of the film we see a bone on Trents houses entrance door. I figured it must have been from a dog as well. So, maybe the kind Trent isnt what we all think he is. He says he received a gun shot when trying to defend himself from a cop. But, allow me to ask something further. Maybe that didnt exactly the way he told Devon? We also see him graving Devon from the truck and telling her thinks while graving her from the waist and soons separates in a serious way, maybe cause he feels he shouldnt do that to a child cause if someone sees him they may probably think hes a molestor. I think he also says something like he feeds on children or something childish which may habe probably come from Devons tales. My question is, could have Trent been arrested for child molestation instead of for having defended himself? Perhaps I am going too deep on this and I really dont think theres something pedophilic implied on this, but a friendship. But still... those are a few things that left me wondering. Whats your take on this? I would love to hear your opinion.

I think they wrote the character like this on purpose. Like, he's no angel. He has some spotty stuff in his past. But, not perverted. You see a little of his normal sexual relationship with the young Angie Harmon (Debbie?something like that). He's just a regular guy who somehow develops this unlikely, pure, friendship with a young girl. He has no other friends. You get the feeling there's been trouble in his past, he lives alone, works alone, by choice. His is a multilayered character. You see the unnatural focus on sex all around him, though, in Brett and Devon's mom's relationship, the repressed Sean, etc.

Trent didn't run over Tracker on purpose. Devon suggested they chase him and Trent lost sight of the dog. Since the dog was still alive and in a lot of pain, he beat it to put it out of its misery. I don't think it was a deliberate thing for revenge or anything.
Yeah, Trent probably had a dog considering that Devon hung out in a dog house while waiting on Trent initially.
I doubt very seriously he had any predilection for children. In the beginning he told Devon to leave-several times. It's not like he asked her to come over. There is zero evidence to suggest anything like that in his past. If anyone was "feeding on children" it was Baba-Yaga the witch. But it's weird that someone could mistake a very obvious platonic friendship, mix in elements from a fairy tale and end up with the nice guy molesting the young girl.
It was just a pure friendship. Don't read too much into it.
Thx
