I discovered who casanova was because... (spoiler)

(spoiler) The main flaw of this movie is putting Cary Elwes as the third cast member on the opening credits, I basically discovered he was the killer because of that, he didn't appear much throughout the movie and then I thought "why is he credited so high on the cast list if he's having such a small role?" then I guessed he was the killer. And I was right. Did anyone discover it like this or am I the weirdo? :D

reply

yes thats exactly what i thought only i didnt know what cary elwes looked like so i didnt know who the killer was!

Haha I got it cuz I guess I'm a little psychic. I just get this feeling about who is the bad guy in a movie. It was a little ways through the movie and I thought to myself "wouldn't it be funny if it was the guy from Princess Bride." Then the more I thought about it I was like OMG IT HAS TO BE HIM.

1) The guy was a cop so he knew how not to leave anything at the crime scene. Because he knew how other cops found evidence.
2) He acted "dumb" a lot, almost too dumb, as to distance himself as far as possible from the cunning guy he actually was.
3) I knew the killer had to be a character that was already introduced. Why reveal this mysterious guy and find it to be somebody the audience doesn't kno? Some twist that would be NOT!
4) His haircut

I figured it out at the scene where Alex Cross is looking at the board with the missing women on it with the other 2 detectives. He says that the women are alive & the guy is a collector. Cary Elwes got this look on his face like, "Hmmm, he figured it out.". It was only for a second but, that's what got me to figure out it was him.

reply

Yep, I got it in more or less the same way. He isn't a huge actor but he's still very well known and his role didn't appear to be very important...so I thought..hmmm, this is suspicious, dude is the killer. It happens to me a lot, where it isn't so much the plot, but the film making, that gives it away.

the second time i watched it the ears were alike, but also notice the ears of nick's partner: his ears have the same shape as nicks

reply

yeah that doesnt make a lot of sense, who else would you have put in third billing? Even barring the last 5 minutes of the movie he still deserved third. So I ask you, if not him, who?

reply

He was just too nice and simple a guy ... that's what made it obvious.

reply

I guessed it was Cary Elwes's character the first time he showed up in the film.

I agree with the OP. Also in the scene when he is watching her (before kidnapped her) Casanova is seeing as a silluette, and is obvious thst is Cary Elwes with a back light.

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

I had a feeling it was going to be Elwes by reading the credits on the vhs back in 1997. I knew that it was about a killer calling himself casanova after the great lover and having seen Elwes play the mystery masked man/hero/love interest in the princess bride i could just see him as a vain pyscho. Trouble was it had been years since id seen princess bride and therefore I didnt recognise him as the detective

reply

I figured probably him before I watched it as he always seems to do those sort of roles.
