Casanova's voice *Spoiler*

Does anyone know if Cary Elwes provided the voice for Casanova before the final scene? The voice you hear delivering the opening monologue and the voice that talks to Kate and the other women in the basement doesn't sound like him, even when he drops his southern accent in the end. The Casanova voice is much deeper, but I can't find a voice credit to a separate actor. Anybody?

reply

the voice sounds like Tony Goldwyn's, and I'm guessing that's him because he is in the movie and in cahoots with Cary Elwes. Hope this helps.

I think it was Cary Elwes speaking as Casanova throughout the entire film. He was probably using something to disguise his voice.

Have you ever seen the "Scream" films? Maybe he was using something like that.

reply

I just started watching the film tonight and even before he came on screen (and I didn't know he was in film) I thought Casanova's voice sounded like Tony Goldwyn. He just has one of those distinctive voices I guess!

I believe I have heard that the voice of Cary Elwes' character (Casanova) in the movie is that of Billy Zane.

reply

It's on tv right now and I knew right away it was Cary Elwes' character because of the silhouette that watches Ashley's character in the very beginning. It was his head shape, his ears... sheesh they gave it away so early!

reply

i thought as i was listening at the beginning the voice talking was familiar...then when I saw that tony goldwyn was in it...well i recognized the voice i thought as being his but you know, it does sound an awful lot like billy zane at least the beginning part. so now im not sure. it has to be tony or billy for sure. i dont think its cary changing his voice. by the way...doesnt tony make a great bad guy...loved him in ghost.

IF YOU DONT HAVE TIME TO DO IT RIGHT, WHEN WILL YOU HAVE TIME TO DO IT OVER?

reply

It's Tony Goldwyn. I have an ear for voices. And it's Tony Goldwyn.

This may help... I have not seen the entire film, but I was flipping through the channels last night and I saw that it was on. There was about 25 minutes left, I think, and I left it on because when I saw the trailers for this film, I thought right away that Carey Elwes was the killer from the shot of the killer watching Ashly Judd and I wanted to see if I was right. I came in just before Morgan Freeman finds the cave and I heard the killer talking and I thought immediately that it was Tony Goldwyn's voice. Then I saw that Tony Goldwyn was who the killer was talking too and it really confused me. Having not seen the rest of the movie I thought that perhaps he had a split personality or something. Then, of course, I saw that Elwes was the killer, as I had suspected (it would have pissed me off if I had watched the whole thing and knew all along who it was). The point is that without even knowing that Tony Goldwyn was in the film, I thought the voice was him. So, my input would be that it is Tony Goldwyn's voice.

I think it's Tony's voice, because when the voice is talking, it sounds just like Tony's did in "The 6th Day." Completely gorgeous!

reply

Yes I knew it was Tony Goldwyn even before I saw him on screen or knew he was even in the film.
As soon as the killer spoke right at the start I knew who he was. And as soon as I realised there were two of them it was obv one was nick
I also love Tony's voice, he's great looking & his voice is gorgeous

reply

Just my two cents, I thought, from the cast it was the voice of Jay Sanders.

I could be mistaken, but I think there a part in the movie where Tony Goldwyn and Cary Elwes were in the tunnel together, and they started arguing, and something was mentioned about the girl Cody Pierce who one of them killed in 1975. At the very beginning of the movie, there is a flashback scene of Casanova remembering what happened with him and Cody Pierce. That coul have definitely been Tony's voice. And then we see a fast-forward to 1997, with Casanova leading the victim into the woods. The voice is the same, but don't forget that Tony Goldwyn's character was like a copycat killer and pretty much committed the majority of the crimes on the west coast. So the actions we see in Durham are mostly committed by Cary Elwes' character.....who by the way is really great at accents and voices. It could have been either one, although in the beginning of the film I heard the voice and thought it was Tony, even before I saw the credits.

I thought it was Jerry O Sanders personally but I also know that in the book series his character, Kyle Craig, ends up being the mastermind and you find out he is the actual Casanova and has been messing with Alex Cross for quite some time. I believe that this was a set up in case the production company decided to make more of the movies. Kyle Craig is revieled to be the master mind at the end of the 7th book, "Roses are Red"

Actually, Nick Ruskin is the real Cassanova. Kyle Craig turns out to be "the mastermind", and he knew about Cassanova, but he wasn't Cassanova.

Sound much like Clive Owens voice as he narrates in Sin City.
