Another Major Plot Hole

First, the police would scour the property on either side of the river from where Judd was found. The police would also look up the butts of all of the property owners. Kidnapping is a Federal offense, so the FBI, with all of their resources, would be involved.

Second, so the girls are being held in former underground slave quarters that no one else knows about. Right! Consider the logistics of furnishing the place and feeding six girls daily. You already have a full time job, so where do you get the time? There would have to be a parking place close to the quarters to carry all of the crap in. If you have to go through the woods on a daily basis, a trail would be formed that would be visible and easily discovered by blood-hounds. Where do the quarters get its water and waste disposal services from? The local town?

In summary, this movie is a total bunch of Hollywood unrealistic B.S.

You are tight on the money!

Its that man again!!

reply

And another thing. What and how does he feed them? Obviously canned or military style MREa. All the police would have to do is check the warehouse stores such as Sam's and Costco and find out who buys an extraordinary amount of canned goods. Then check the suppliers of the MREs and see who locally buys a lot of them.

If he was smart enough to pay cash then they would not be able to track him.

reply

Don't you think that the cops would also ask you deals in cash only?

reply

It's a movie genius. Not real life

reply

As if that matters. You can only ask the audience to suspend disbelief so far.

reply

Yes. That they didn't immediately scour the area tracing back from where Kate was found in the river basically removed any credibility this movie had. I actually enjoyed Along Came a Spider more, though it is junk, too.

reply

You movie critics crack me up lmao! Its just a movie, u lunatic!

reply

Yeah. My thoughts too. That was a major plot hole but it is a well done film overall.

reply

The second half was a confused jumble, not to mention increasingly farfetched.

As far as Kate's escape and why the detectives failed to search potential areas nearby and upriver, Kate was drugged and (it seems) couldn't remember specifics, like the waterfall, which was within walking distance of the criminal's lair. Still, how far could she have realistically traveled through the woods by foot or in the river (wounded) -- 5 miles, 10 miles? The police definitely should've focused on locating the perpetrator's lair at that point since they knew the general region it was located rather than fly out to friggin' Southern Cal!

It's a glaring, movie-ruining plot hole.

reply

I could see a couple ways around it:
1) Ariel Castro proved that it has been done in real life.
2) I know experienced woodsmen who could go through an uncut area and you'd neve know it.
3) Casanova was a cop himself and probably keeping tabs on/manipulating the investigation

Mostly though, as you and others pointed out, it is a Hollywood story.
