Jump cut happy

There were jump cuts all the way through at least every other scene. There was no real point to doing it as far as I could figure out.
Very disappointing that this won best AFI picture in 1997, doesn't say much about Australian cinema IMO

it's called BAD EDITING....I was looking forward to watching it but couldn't handle the creally bad editing so I stopped it halfway through.

No, they are jump cuts, used by the French New Wave film directors like Jean-luc Goddard in Breathless. They are intentional in this film and meant to jar the viewer, making them think about what they are watching; the characters of Al and Nikki who may or may not be killers.

I got used to it really quickly and thought it was a refreshing change to conventional Hollywood film making. Again the lack of any background music in the film is unusual but heightens the intensity of the outback and nature. I also enjoyed the '50s feel to the movie and the noir elements.

I love this film (and Matt Day is gorgeous in it).

Good movie but the jump cuts were annoying

Yes, the jump cuts were intentional and I liked it. It was also the decision of the director to use no music, even not during the credits. But it seems that if a director tries to do something different, some people just can't handle it. So I think you should stick with watching Pearl Habour or something like that.
