Question about the book

David Ruggle's grandma said that Mr Griffin's ring was really David's father's ring, and it had the same inscription. Was it supposed to be that David, unknowingly, killed his father... or was his grandma just a luney?

reply

Mr. Griffin and David's father went to the same university I think...

Who died and made you president Nixon?

reply

Oh okay, yeah I guess that makes sense.

reply

Good question. No,Mother Ruggles believed David had been seeing his dad,David Sr.(who walked out on the family years ago.)She was fervent in this belief and told David in the book she wanted to see her boy before she died.

reply

But that doesn't answer the original question......

I don't think it was his father....

Do you fear death?

reply

Most likely it wasn't-at least not in the book.I don't know about the movie.

reply

Exactly... in the book, it only says that they have the same ring... I didn't see the movie... YET. But, from what i hear, it should be remade to be exactly like the book... o nly a few adjustments...

There was no connection between Mark's father and Mr. Griffin in the movie. I don't remember anything about a ring. Sounds like they changed a lot.

they didn't change it they just took it out. in my opinion, the movie is quite close to the book(alot closer than the 'so-called' gallows hill movie(i mean what the heck kinda nme is 'i've been waiting for you'?) and i know what you did last summer) they just slightly changed a few thing, like making 1 character into 2 characters. taking out the whole "Is mr griffin david's dad?" thing, and thy changed how mr griffin's pills went missing, they took out some other stuff and there might be 1 or 2 more things they changed, but i remember it being pretty close to the book. (it's been a while since i've read the book. i own the movie and watch it quite a bit.)

My impression, at least in the book...was that the ring Mr. Griffin was wearing was similar to the one Dave remembered seeing his Dad wear, that his hands reminded him of his Dad's...he even asked one of them in the book( Betsy I think, who wasn't in the movie, by that name anyway...) if they noticed Mr. Griffin's hands...it made him think of his Dad, who had also died, giving Mr. Griffin a more human element in his mind. I don't think there was a connection, really...just in David's mind? His Grandma was a little nutty, and she may have thought it was really her son's but I don't think it was in reality.I don't remember there being anything about it in the movie, but I only saw it once, the book I read many times, back in middle school...so it's been a very long time lol.
