Lois Duncan was probably happy with this adaptation more that I Know What You Did Last Summer. She did say publicly that she knew it was going to be bad because she was banned from the movie set.

reply

I Know What You Did Last Summer wasn't a faithful adaptation, but that doesn't mean it was bad. As an old school slasher it was pretty good.

From what I recall, I don't think there was a hooded slasher fisherman in the book for I Know What You Did Last Summer. Or am I remembering wrong?

Duncan's IKWYDLS was a lot more mysterious. I never read the book, but after reading Killing Mr. Griffin, I read up on her. It was never a teen slasher type book. I imagine it was a lot more "sedated" than the film.

The Killing Mr. Griffin movie wasn't a great adaptation. They added another girl to the main group for basically one minor scene (Mark plans to break up with his current girlfriend). The ending blew, and Griffin was made out to be even worse than he was in the book. He was strict and unbending, but he wasn't a complete douchebag like in the movie. The only student he "humiliated" was Mark Kinney in the book. When you screw up the main characters like that, I'd say it's a lame adaptation.

Another factoid about Lois Duncan is that she believes her daughter, a reporter, was murdered while investigating the police in New Mexico. It was ruled a random drive-by by the police there. Really young and really tragic.
