I was thinking the same thing. Think about these:
- the father is unknown to the son for a long time
- father and son get involved in the same business
- the son has many of the same talents and aptitudes as the father
- the father is constantly fighting the son, why? to pull him to the dark side?
- in the end we learn the father does care about the son
- that he is called Vader is amazing -- wonder if Lucas knew about this
