ending

Can anyone tell me how the movie ended? I don't want to watch it again because it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, but for some reason I couldn't tear myself away from it. Ironically, the phone rang at the last 5 minutes of the movie and I missed the end and I've been curious about it ever since. Can someone help me out?

He tries walking out of the town, the cop car picks him up and brings him back in. Then he is walked out of his room in his suit by the Sherriff & Barber etc, to his death we assume, while that maid woman listens to his last taped diary entry.

reply

Hmm... okay, thanks.

I was wondering...wasn't the landlord's sister deaf and a mute? How could she be listening to his tape? It didn't make any sense to me.

reply

She wasn't actually listening to it. She was holding the recorder against her chest as if she could feel the vibrations of his voice. Or at least that's the way I took it. Unless she really wasn't deaf. It's sort of hard to tell.

thank you, i hated this movie and in so many other postings they said they thought it was the greatest movie ever made, i still don't understand how someone thinks it's brave to kill themselves, i don't know

reply

Killing yourself can be seen so many ways.

The one thing most fear more than anything is death and for good reason. A lot of what is scary about death is the "fear of the unknown." There are so many people who could never take their own lives therefore for someone to do it must mean they are in a very desperate place.

I understand why some call it brave to just put a gun to your head and shoot the trigger. Not anyone could do that.

If someone lost someone close to them I understand that they would not want to live without them. Not that you could not, but I would not want to.

I agree that it was a dumb movie. I never say that about film because i love movie but this one was aweful. I think at the end she could hear the tapes so he was like the miracle that she could hear only him. i didn't like that he just walked off to his death and everyone else was ok with it. i thought it was stupid!

reply

What if she could understand what he said by the vibration of his voice. If you can read lips you could perhaps understand the vibrations. That's what the membranes in a microphone or a loudspeaker do

"... one of the worst movies I've ever seen, but for some reason I couldn't tear myself away from it."

I've paid good money to watch movies that I've gotten up and walked out on after 15 minutes. I would consider those to be some of the worst movies I've ever seen (or almost seen). Movies that I can't "tear myself away from..." do not fit into the "worst" category - in my opinion.

Ditto. I think the original poster took issue with the feel of the film rather than the content. The content is good, and the concept is excellent, but the execution was poor.
