Tarantino horrible editor

This guy Clearly needs someone who will tell him to edit out meaningless conversations that just make the movie 3 hours long. This movie could have been 1 hour and 40 minutes but this clown has to put everything he shoots into the movie. It just drags and ruins the pace of his movies. This movie was good but could have been great. His scenes are mostly conversations and long ones at that

reply

How do you know he puts in everything he shoots?

Most movies are around 4 to 5 hours in rough cut form, prior to editing.

It sounds to me like you have an issue with dialogue scenes in general. You need to listen to whats being said.

I personally think he writes very good dialogue and its one of his strong points.

reply

There's a reason 99 percent of movies are not 2 and a half hours long. Tarantino Isa clown. He needs to accept the fact that his movies will only attract cult like fans and will never be taken seriously. Game over

reply

I would disagree with your 99% argument. 2.5 hours is practically the norm for most movies.

And your assertion that he has only a cult following is way off base.

Don't have an issue with anyone not liking Tarantino, each to their own. But i think your reasons don't make any sense.

reply

You are incorrect. "Most movies" are 90-100 minutes long. Not no 2/5 hours, so get your statistics right. Movies that long are generally superhero or action movies and they're in the minority. The standard length of crime thrillers and dramas are nowhere near this length and there's more of those movies than anything. The OP is right. This movie dragged way too long and could have been about 100 minutes, maybe 110 at the most. That whole mall scene where we see different perspectives of the same event play out was unnecessary and could have been handled better. This fan edited the scene a lot better in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqxQnqclH-g. This is how it should have been.

The movie also suffers from too much talking, not enough action, most characters like Melanie, Sharonda, and Louis are wasted. The movie is 154 minutes long and yet these characters have nothing exciting to do or have LITTLE roles? Something isn't right there. Jackie doesn't even have much to do herself and wields a gun in one scene yet the marketing makes her out to be this Foxy Brown type of character and is nothing of the sort. Overall, the movie was dull and needed better tightening and character development. The movie spent too much time trying to be a homage, it forget to tell a proper story with well rounded characters, but that's another topic.

Back to as far as the length goes just face it dude, the movie was overly long for a rather simple plot that could have still been beneficial at 100-110 minutes. If this movie was going to be THIS long, then there should have been much more happening as far as action and characters not sitting around talking like they're bored and waiting to be called to do something. -_-

I can't stand him and and movies!

reply

It's the "meaningless" conversations in QT films that make them so good.

Perhaps none of us should comment on a movie comment board since we’ll never be famous like the movie people we’re commenting on

reply

Feel free to comment. Best to make at least a cursory effort to include some rational thought, however. There's no shortage of people who can't parse information/logic; why advertise the fact?

reply

The conversations establish the characters and build tension

reply

Um, they don't need to be OVERLY long though. We can still grasp their traits without it being dragged out. If that's the case then the best movies out there that are waaaay shorter ought to be 154 minutes long. But they're not because they know how to get the meaning out in a swifter fashion and makes sense for them to be shorter if the plot is simple and don't need to be 154 minutes long like this movie was. Lengths like these are really reserved for superhero, action, or fantasy movies because they're much broader and tend to need the extra story expansion especially if based on books with a surreal world building (like Harry Potter). This story did not need to be this long unless there was more action, and there wasn't.

reply

I agree his movies are too long, but (in the good movies) the dialogue is the best part. Cut down the action scenes, and you got a deal. Do whatever you want with the bad movies, might as well give them to the action fans who will be upset that you "butchered" the good ones.
