The only reason I ever heard of this movie is...

In 1996 I traveled with a delegation from a small German village to visit their sister city in Poland. On the way we hit all the big known Polish cities, and Poznan', where we stayed at a hotel. The room I was in was kept relatively clean, but the chambermaid apparently did not look in the desk drawer between guests. I believe (and I don't remember why I believe this) that it had been occupied by the director of this movie; whoever it was left notes and parts of the script in the drawer. Though the IMDb doesn't mention it, this movie definitely had one or two scenes filmed in Poznan'. The notes included edits and new pages, and even a joke page about the 'F' word provided for the benefit of one of the crew. I was happy to finally find the video of it, to prove that the movie actually existed!

What a peculiar coincidence. Your findings seem almost like a relic of moviemaking.

How did you like it then? The movie? I am a teacher in Denmark and I regularly use it to show to my pupils, who can learn a lot from it without being faced with too much gruesomeness.

Actually, it was to see some details for another show, I went onto this page in the first place today.

I'll have to watch it again. It's been a long time (I only have it on videotape) Unfortunately, my brother was making a movie and I thought he could use the notes as an example, so I sent them to him and he, being the thoughtful guy he is, tossed them in the trash while cleaning house. This despite my telling him specifically that I wanted them back. Anyway, I think it was a better movie than I expected. But I really will have to watch it again to remind myself of my opinion. :o) Have you seen Europa Europa? It may also be a good one for your students, but you should see it first by yourself. I don't know what the Danish standards are for gore in history class movies. :o)
