Hellen referring to the dad as Charlie...


I thought this part was interesting that Doug was curious as to why she called him "Charlie" and not "your father. " her explanation was that's just the way she thought of him...as Charlie and that was it. Anyone have any thought on this, any other explanations? The reason I ask is because my dad does the same thing with my mom and she gets so irritated by it.

Doug's father died before he was born.
If he had been alive and had a relationship with Doug, no matter how brief, she might have referred to him as, "your father".
In a way, Doug had no claim to him.
She seems to have had an intense love for her husband that emotionally excluded eveyone else

Maybe, she loved him as a man, but did not relate to him as the father figure of her boys.
