2 years older?

Is that really something that Jacey and Alice would have been arrested for? Jacey was probably 19 or 20 at the time so he would have been mature enough to be her boyfriend. Not that I think their relationship would have worked out, I just think it's a weird excuse from Alice not to be with Jacey because she's two years older. Two years older is almost nothing.

The only scene I can relate this to is when she showed up for the picnic. He jokingly said she could buy the beer. Is that the scene?

Yeah, I know...a girl being 2 years older than the guy isn't that much of a big deal. 5-10 years, YES, but 2 years? No. I guess during late teen years, it's a "big deal" to a teen girl, cause they have in mind an older guy or something...but honestly, most girls don't really care that much. I used to when I was younger, but I don't really have a preference...just as long as I'm not half a decade or a decade older, hahaha.

Two years at that age is still a long time.

But really I took it as a reference to the fact that Alice was married and a mother. Despite the fact she was portrayed as rather shallow, it would definitely give her a lot of experience Jacey didn't have. Jacey was not husband or father material at that time. Jacey probably wouldn't even understand how important that would be to Alice.

Alice also probably saw her complex family situation and position in society as a big gulf as well.

I took it as to show Alice limitations. Like a two years difference would make any big deal ? Worst reason not to engage in a relation. The fact she couldn't find a better excuse demonstrated she wasn't very smart.

For example, she could have easily said : wait you made a whore out of my sister who ended in a asylum .... THAT would have been a good excuse not to sleep with JC.

Note that JC wasn't very convinced by the age pretext either.
