Who the heck was Ida?

I missed the beginning. I thought she was one of the Hamiltons' daughters until the blurbs at the end, when I saw her name was Crenshaw. Was she a relative or something? Thanks.

I forget exactly, but I think she was a distant cousin or something. She lived with two old aunts and the Hamilton's felt they should take her in. They were related somehow.

Ida is the Hamilton's cousin, a first cousin to Amy and neice to the adults.
