The Provos asked for it

Without getting into whether or not one supports the IRA and it's "struggle", it seems that they were asking for trouble by strong-arming Gingy into killing the judge. It would seem obvious to me that he'd be much more likely to turn “tout” than a real volunteer would be. I read somewhere that the IRA didn't actually force people into doing things like that but as an American I don't know if that's true. Of course, that whole scenario could very well have been devised to make Gingy more sympathetic to the audience. Not too many people really empathize with a snitch no matter what their political inclinations may be.

I am an Irish Catholic from the North ma'am and I was there in the 70's...
...were you?

It's not ma'am, I'm a dude. Lady_Killer is slang for a man who is irresistibly fascinating to women. Anyway to answer your question, no, I'm not from Northern Ireland. I'm American.

Who cares if you were there in the 70's, what point are you trying to make? Murder is murder is murder, you can try and justify it if you want but you'll just look like a tool!
