how did his wife get an infant if he had been in prison 5 years?

probably the prisons in Ireland are much more humane, and allow lots of conjugal visits, but this matter is never explained.....

He had been in prison, but after being released he moves south (Ireland) and lives in a caravan. In the book they explain sometimes he makes shorts visits to Belfast. I guess in one of these visits Roisin got pregnant.
