DVD Release: July 3, 2007!!!!

Yay! I've been wanting to see this since I read the short story a year ago, and now its finally getting released on DVD! For anyone who's seen the movie adaptation and read the short, how does the film compare to the story?

reply

There are some differences. The movie's approach portrays the mother, all while caring, to be quite shallow.

She actually misses her son dying, even though it happens right in front of her.

Overall the movie is still very good, and was an HBO original movie so it could be lingering in the movie stores somewhere on VHS.

I cannot remember all the subtle differences between the two.

Enjoy

Shallow? Really?? That sounds disappointing, because as I recall in the short, she was a very sensitive and sympathetic character. Hopefully it is still as good as you say. (I'll have to wait for the DVD; don't own a VCR!) Thanks for the heads up!

reply

She's very loving, don't get me wrong, but she's very self centered in the way she handles the situation. Perhaps shallow isn't the correct word there.

It is still worth watching either way.

It's been 10 years and it's not on DVD? Aahh, I wanted to see it. It's not even on isohunt.
*will wait a month*

What happened?! Now the release date is unknown. Anyone have any information on when this is coming out?

I ordered this movie from Amazon on DVD in July of 2006. I then received notification from them that it would be released in July of 2007. I kept my order actived, and in July I received notification that it would be shipped 11 Sept. Just this morning, Amazon notified me that now, the "approximate" ship date is 10 November. So... draw your own conclusions as to when it might actually materialize.
