reminds me of a great 1956 Spanish flm classic

Calle Mayor (Main Street) by Juan Antonio Bardem (uncle of Javier) made under great difficulty (Bardem was jailed at one point) in Franco's Spain. A wonderful neorrealist noir film with stunning black & white camera work, no doubt influenced by the more comedic I Vitelloni (1953) by Fellini. Bardem was also a great fan of Hitchcock. Highly critical of the hypocrisy of Spanish society at the time, Calle Mayor is still relevant. First saw it as a young teenages on late night tv, it made a huge inpression on me.
