tom selleck makes a good gay man lol

never saw that coming. i liked this film. a bit of fun. watched it with a gay firned. this and brokeback mountain. this was a lot more fun of course. was funny when kevin kline finally admitted to himself he was gay. my friend said it is not normally that easy a decision to make. not as painful a experience as brokeback mountain which was inspiring but also very emotionally taxing. this was just good clean gay fun lol. 6 out of 10

It was refreshing to see Tom S play a non-stereotypical gay guy. He sold the character very well!

I agree about Tom Selkeck, but I would've liked the movie even more if Kevin kline's character had turned out NOT to be gay. THAT would have defied all the gender stereotypes perpetuated by his character.

reply

I think I agree here. It would have been better if he wasn't gay and he liked all those things considered "gay". Now that would have been groundbreaking.

reply

Uh, I understand where you've coming from but if Kline's character were straight then there wouldn't be a movie.

One of the great references was that the Tom Selleck look, in Magnum P.I., could be seen in nearly every gay bar in the late 70's & early 80's. So stereotypical was the look that there was a persistent rumor that Selleck was gay. For those of us who were around then seeing Selleck play a gay man is an extra special treat.

reply

Oh, yeah, totally. There are a lot of mustached butch-looking gay guys. It's just that the flaming queens waving their hands and speaking in that nasal high pitched voice are way more noticeable.
