Other good movies set in the 70s?

Boogie Nights and Dazed and Confused seemed to get it right.

Any other suggestions?

Thx

I can't really help too much but throwing Charlie's Angels (1976 television series) in my DVD player always brings me back to the 1970s right away. Since they filmed more of it outdoors than other series shown then on television you get a good look at different locations/cars/buildings/styles back then.

Someone else here on the board noted that Lymelife resembles The Ice Storm. While Lymelife is set in 1979-1980, it is a pretty darned good movie.

Last, Dogtown and Z-boys is a documentary but the music and topic takes me back to the 70's as well. It is one of the best documentaries I have seen.

Almost Famous (2000) - also set in 1973 as is The Ice Storm

Munich (2005) - also around '73, but in Europe. Many excellent period details.

Inherent Vice (2014) - Paul Thomas (Boogie Nights) Anderson returns to the 1970s, this time 1970.

The Last Days of Disco (1998) - has a good late 70s/early 80s NYC disco scene vibe.

Funkytown (2011) - Another look at the disco scene, this time in the Montreal of 1976-1980.

Zodiac (2007) - San Francisco throughout the 1970s.

Movies set in the 1970's or from then:

Though some of these films describe other time periods, they still embody the 1970's message of disillusionment that followed 1960's optimism and even activism, with a deep distrust of government, new belief in conspiracies ("Parallax View"), a cynical view of male-female relationships ("Klute") and a depressed, almost defeatist attitude toward the ongoing Vietnam War ("Deer Hunter", "Coming Home") and the lives of returning veterans.
A good example of the last one is "Catch 22", which feels very much like a Vietnam film, though it is set in WWII.

"Dog Day Afternoon" and "Network" examine the growth of media and news as more of a circus than as actual news.

Only the factual, yet oddly tension-filled "All The President's Men" portrays news and journalism as authentic, while inevitably contributing to more of the distrust and anomie already characteristic of the 1970's.

"Deer Hunter" (1978) - Christopher Walken, Robert DeNiro
Robert Altman's:
"Nashville" (1975) - Keith Carradine, Karen Black, Lily Tomlin
"The Long Good-bye" - Elliot Gould as Det. Philip Marlowe - (1973)
"McCabe and Mrs. Miller" - Warren Beatty, Julie Christie (1971)
Five Easy Pieces - Jack Nicholson (1970)
Klute (1970) - Jane Fonda, Donald Sutherland - dir. Alan Pakula
"Mash" (1970)
Network (1976) - Faye Dunaway, Ned Beatty, Peter Finch"Coming Home" -
"Dog Day Afternoon" (1975) - Al Pacino
"All the President's Men" - Robert Redford, Dustin Hoffman - 1976
"The Parallax View" - Warren Beatty- (1974)
"Catch 22"- 1970 - John Voigt, Alan Arkin, Dir. Mike Nichols
- about WWII, but definitely has early 70's, cynical tone (anti-war, anti-establishment)

On the lighter side, here's one of my favorites:
"Shampoo" (1975) - Dir. Hal Ashby, Starring Beatty, Julie Christie, Goldie Hawn - Though set in 1967 L.A., on the eve of the Republican Convention, the "feel" is both very 1960's, but with the telltale cynicism and materialism of the '70's. A brilliant satire of 60's sexual values, and a great film to watch before the upcoming GOP convention!

Don't get me wrong...
It might be unbelievable,
But let's not say so long

All great films that I love, but those movies were made in the 70s.

I'm looking for movies made in the 80s,90s, 00s that accurately depict the look, feel and ideas of the 1970s.

I am not sure that any will get many movies that do as good a job depicting the 70s Yatzo as they just nailed the wardrobe and took time to have many period elements shown in the background.

When Kevin Kline walks into the basement of the Carver house there is a decorative shaved wood design hanging on the wall behind him. We actually had one of those back in the 70s!

The Coen brothers' "A Serious Man", wich somewhat shares a similar dark comedic tone with this movie.

Beautiful Ohio (2006)

Dazed and Confused ! It reminds me so much of the styles I grew up with, hair and clothes.
We didn't have hazing, fortunately, but otherwise this is exactly the way it was around 1976-77.
And it's a light comedy, but realistic so it's not a farce. It's just a slice of life of a bunch of kids who haven't had to deal with hard decisions, (other than sticking up for yourself against a tougher guy). One of my favorites, and not a downer.

Darn. You already mentioned D&C. Sorry 'bout that.

Licorice Pizza, a 2021 film about 1973.
