Christina Ricci

Im a huge fan of hers and this is about the only movie of hers that i havent seen so i have 2 questions.

1. How big a role does she play in this movie?

2. Is this worth watching?

Thanks xx

She's got a pretty solid role. And I would recommend watching, yes.

Is there a website where i can watch it or am i going to have to find it on dvd?

so 'pieces of april' is good? i wasn't going to watch it b/c i don't like katie holmes, but she doesn't ruin it or anything?

reply

Pieces of April is like a Parker Posey movie with Katie Holmes in the Parker Posey role. I am not fond of Holmes, but she is in two of my favorite movies (The Ice Storm and Wonder Boys) because her presence is so underwhelming that she just disappears and doesn't ruin the movie. Pieces of April, aside from Holmes, has such a fantastic cast (Patricia Clarkson, Alice Drummond, Lilias White, Sean Hayes, and Broadway's new sensation John Gallagher Jr., and many others) and they have enough screen time among them, that it's worth sitting through, even for non-Holmes-fans like you and I.

hey, thanks for the info! my mom actually bought it (she buys a lot of movies) but, like i said, i wasn't planning on watching it b/c i really don't like holmes. i love parker posey, though. i haven't seen "party girl" in so long, but i just watched her in "waiting for guffman" today. i like the "ice storm," but i don't remember katie in it. i'll check out "wonder boys" and the rest of the cast of "pieces of april." most don't sound familiar, but maybe i'll recognize their faces.

again, thanks for all the help.

...try super-imposing in your mind Parker Posey over Katie Holmes in Pieces of April and see whether it improves her scenes!

ha! that'd be great.

oh, i think i just remembered katie's role in "the ice storm." i forgot tobey maguire was in that, too.

i love patricia clarkson. did you see "the station agent?"

i've seen alice drummond in a bunch of things. she seems like an awesome lady, or at least a great actor.

<<did you see "the station agent?" >>

I LOVE The Station Agent. I just love being with those people, and watching it with the DVD commentary is wonderful, because it's obvious that the they have the same affection for one another and the movie!

The performance of Alice Drummond's that I really loved was as the aunt in the stage production of Marvin's Room (the role that Gwen Verdon played in the movie).

i loved "the station agent," too. i'll have to watch it sometime w/ the commentary on. bobby cannavale's character was my favorite.

i can't remember what role it was that i know Alice Drummond from. i'll have to look through her work and report back to you.

If you're a Law & Order fan, she played a memorable bag lady in the mid-90s episode "Mayhem" (which had a plot inspired by both Lorena Bobbit and Son-of-Sam).

She's also terrific as the drunken actress in the Jason Robards You Can't take It with You.

i noticed she was on "law & order," i just didn't look up the episode b/c i'm lazy, and it's late (it's 7am here, and i haven't gone to bed yet.) although, the "mayhem" episode sounds familiar. i feel like i was trying to look it up for some other reason recently...?

i'm not sure i've seen "you can't take it with you." i've heard of it, i just don't think i've seen it. is it shakespeare? i could look, but... :) (sorry i use quotations. i know films are supposed to be underlined/italicized and tv shows in " " but i'm not sure i know how to do bold/italics/etc. i'm sure it says somewhere around here...)

i've stayed up entirely too late, yet again, but i've enjoyed this thread, so feel free to continue it (if you wish) and i'll reply later. (i would say "tomorrow," but it's already tomorrow for me...)

That little speech reminds me Addams Family Values, the burn-the-whites show. And her role's name in that movie is Wednesday, which weirdly contains Wendy.

I think the movie's pretty good, but I'm a fan of mid-nineties Christina Ricci and Elijah Wood so with them in the same movie as sort-of boyfriend/girlfriend was good enough for me. Plus I have the book, most of it's not the same in the film, but Christina plays Wendy Hood, one of the main characters. Personally I think Jessica Wesson would've been better because she looks just like Wendy's described in the book...but Christina's very real in this movie, looks included (I liked we're built alike in this one). I actually fast-forwarded most of the movie just to watch her scenes just like I watch every other movie that includes my favorite actors!

She's a great actress and I think she probably gave the best performance out of everyone in the film.

Yes, this movie is worth watching but not because of Ricci but because it is directed by Ang Lee.

She a decent amount of screen time and (as usual) she has the most awkward/interesting things to work with. The film is very good but the pace is slow and.. very depressing.
