Next to Redford, the next best actor in the film was
the horse, Hightower.
Shouldn't there be some sort of recognition or award given to animals
with great performances in movies? I was amazed at how the horse was able
to act those scenes.

I agree 100%. The scenes between RR and the horse were intense and jaw-dropping. Better than any of those loser animals in "Dr Doolittle"!!

Actually, the horse's owner realizes the value of an animal like Hightower and probably "rewards" him with special daily care (nothing but the best oats and a good currying 3 times a day).

The least they could do is give them billing.
Too often animal actors aren't even mentioned in the "cast". Some give tremendous performances.
