Billy Bob hates Homegrown

If anyone saw the "Friday Night Lights" (Oct. 8) episode of Dinner of Five on Bravo, Billy Bob Thornton was slamming an unnamed movie and its director who had made him "look stupid" as he put it. He was blasting the director for having written a comedy yet under the mistaken impression that it was a thriller, the director had ruined a script that Billy Bob thought was "hilarious".

Never saw this movie, but from browsing this board, it seems like the one.

He portrayed Stephen Gyllenhall as a train wreck of a director, the way Billy Bob described him as a "nervous" guy with "twitches". But was the whole anecdote really necessary or deserved? Seems like Billy Bob doesn't let go of grudges, jeez.

I'm not saying any of this is true, just saying the show was funny, I hope to be able to say as much if I ever see this movie for myself. But I'm not looking forward to that as much as Friday Night Lights.

He was talking about the movie The Badge ....He hates that movie and it was released to video only Homegrown was in the movie theaters.

Well, I've seen a lot of Billy Bob's movies and in my opinion, I kind of enjoyed The Badge. Of course, even if it was a decent flick, if Billy Bob thought or felt he was misled, then I can see why he'd be ticked.

Homegrown... well... if I had to watch either The Badge or Homegrownn again... Well... he's made better movies.

No, he usually badmouths his earlier movies like "The Man who Broke 1000 Chains" (the movie that led him to create Karl Childers in the mirror out of self-hatred for even being in it) and "The Badge."

Thornton and Gyllenhall got along just fine, AFAIK. If you watch the documentary on Thornton for the Sling Blade Special Edition ("Mr. Thornton Goes to Hollywood"), Gyllenhall is actually interviewed in it as one of his good friends.

Wasn't he also disappointed in himself for somehow always being an expendable player in a movie that starred Val Kilmer in the lead?

I thought Thornton was an above average character actor in this movie. I really enjoyed it. To me, it was a comedy and thriller. The problem I have with Thorton is that when he first was being noticed by TV producers in Arkansas and socializing with President Clinton, he seemed to be a happy-go-lucky, grinning country boy.

It seemed like when he married Angelina Jolie, he became the humorless actor in interviews, talking down to interviewers and fans, like a modern day Marlon Brando. I can't think of a film of his that I haven't liked, but I feel that his public persona needs work. Don't take yourself so seriously.

I had hoped that the line would be in the quotes section, but it wasn't; when Thorton and Azaria are talking about what they are going to do with the money from the sale, Azaria says something like (mocking Thorton), I guess you're going to buy a Harley and get a string of Korean whores. To me, the line and how it was delivered, was the funniest in the movie. If anyone has the exact quote, I would be in your debt for sharing it.

Carter: "Well, what are you gonna do with your money? You gonna get yourself some whores? <imitates Jack> I believe I'm gonna get myself a Harley and find some Ko-rean whores."

Jack: "For your information, smartass, I just might start my own Fortune 500 company."
