funny sweet movie

This is a very funny and endearing movie set in small town America with Drew Barrymore at the helm - check it out if you get a chance,

The owls are not what they seem.

yeah..it was cute and sad, but kinda weird...it sucks for them that her kid is his stepbrother type thing.

Coming to it as a fan of Jake Busey, I love this movie, and it saddens me that it's rated so low here and elsewhere. I'm sure the trailer had something to do with it -- the right people weren't brought to the movie by that thing, which didn't even describe the majority of the plot. It made it out to be some hokey one-line romantic comedy, when it has a dark bite that I guess some people just don't appreciate, or were surprised and disappointed by.

I love it, though, the characters are endearing and there are genuinly nice/funny moments. It's a feel-good picture which just happens to feature a storyline about murder. Go figure.

I love this movie too...it is truly a hidden treasure and I don't understand why more people don't like it...maybe because it is kind of true to life.

-Kids will do anything to get approval from a parent who in turn learns if approval is not ever completely given, the world is theirs (from their children, at least, until 50 or older)

-In a small town, an older man with some 'something' (not sure what that guy had; I don't know why the wife married him...money? security?) can get over on girls you'd think would not give him the time of day if the girls had more choice

-I love Shelley Duvall's family and the dad; he's a firecracker and she's used to him and loves everyone in her house

-There's not a lot of places to work in some towns specially now so everyone gravitates toward the grocery store or fast food

-I LOVE Ms. O'Hara's character; SO GOOD! You can't quite catch her most of the time doing her manipulating; then suddenly; oops there she is! Right out in the open and not ashamed about it. She wants what she wants and by that time 9 times out of 10 she's getting it.
There's a psych profile for people like her. I forget what it is. Men are like that too. When they are around people out of their influence, you'd never know butter would melt in their mouths. But they are capable of anything!

-The boys are both in the National Guard on their way to whatever life holds for them because that's just the path lots of young men used to take after high school in order to serve their country/ go to college/buy a house/the whole Dream.

This movie is not about some glam people with a great pad and some great job and endless supplies of outfits and plot twists.

It's just about life and things going wrong and right all at the same ironic sad/hilarious time.

I love it.

I can think of a lot of one-word descriptions for this movie and "endearing" isn't one of them.
