I liked the movie, despised the art.

Even as a kid I really disliked the art style used in Hercules. I get that they were going for a Greek-vase style art, but in the end I don't think that played out well. The characters look like deformed caricatures of Disney art.

I like the movie but the art still bugs me to this day. Especially when I look at the phenomenal art in the movies that came just before it. The Lion King, Pocahontas and Hunchback of Notre Dame all had jaw-droppingly gorgeous characters.

And then came this...

When you're a little girl all excited to see the next "Disney Princess", Meg was a disappointment.

Other than the art I really have no complaints about the movie. The plot was fine, the voice actors were amazing and the songs are catchy.

Why was Meg a disappointment?

I just didn't find her pretty. The art made her too angular, with crazy pointy chin and nose and hair that didn't really move and a body that makes zero sense.

She's especially unappealing when you compare her to the leading ladies of the Disney films just prior to hers: Jasmine, Pocahontas and Esmeralda were all just gorgeous.

Meg's attitude and character were awesome, but her look was lacking.

Yeah the aesthetics for Hercules was a little offbeat from previous Disney movies. Hercules should've been done with the kind of aesthetics Aladdin had. I sort of feel the same way how Maui look's for the upcoming Moana movie.
