Did John Brown really exist?
Forgive my ignorance. I assume he was a real person, or they wouldn't have made this movie. Does anyone have any info on the topic?

shareSince posting I've googled Victoria and John. He did exist.
shareHe did exist, and as far as I know the film was fairly accurate, although I admit that I'm not sure!
I know it's ages since you posted and this may be way too late for you, but if youre interested there is a biography on him... It's simply called 'John Brown' and it's by Raymond Lamont-Brown, he actually spoke to people that knew him as well as reading documentation, so it might be quite interesting... I haven't read it, although I do want to, but it's had really good reviews!

Yes,
John Brown did exist.
The film is actually quite exact about his interaction with Victoria.
It was originally written as a Documentary.
And the strange thing is that, after JB had died, Queen Victoria latched onto another servant. He ended up being hated even more than JB by her children and staff! Apparently she gave him nicknames and treated him as her favourite. Weird but a great monarch, just like the current one.
shareHe was real, though there is no evidence for a romantic attachment between him and the queen. they remained very close though until his death (there was no estrangement between them as is implied in the film).
