Film has aged badly.

The movie was made in 1995. Since then, the casino industry has changed dramatically. The old world,of gangsters like Sydney and Jimmy is gone. You can no longer do the things Sydney did to get free rooms. Let alone a nice suite. Casinos now are all owned by large companies, looking to squeeze every dollar they can out of you.You have to be a rated player, and have a casino host. And actually do some real gambling. Even then you may only get a comp for a buffet. I can't imagine someone like Clementine working in a casino today.A cocktail waitress, also picking up sex clients in the casino? No way. She also gave the impression of being drunk or on drugs. And even in 1995,who went to Niagra Falls for a honeymoon?

well man ! that is what movies for ,it shows you an era that is no longer there ...like (Boggie Nights) a film about golden age of porn ...you cant say (The deer hunter ) is obsolete because Vietnam war is over.

reply

These were small time people scuffling along just trying to survive in Las Vegas just like people still do today. Not former big time gangsters and current corporation pukes.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

Eh I still find it very enjoyable!

reply

A film has aged badly when the acting or filmmaking seems amateurish now, not when the things they do in the film no longer work.

reply

Agreed. Not the correct term to use here.

reply

Little does the OP know that the things done in the film still do actually work.

reply

I don't know about that... I wouldn't consider it "dated," since I don't really consider 1995 that long ago. It's just not "woke" or geared toward the audiences of today, where all the characters would now be young and POC (except the Jimmy character would maybe be the evil white guy).

Donkey!

The film has aged just fine. What's aged badly is Las Vegas IRL.

reply

But the movie is set in the past, not in 2016. Your comment is like complaining about the Godfather because it doesn't depict how the crime underworld is today.

And BTW, I know people who have gone to Niagara Falls to honeymoon in recent years.
