Is the girl with the kite on the beach meant to be Nishi and his wife's daughter? I thought so until he shoots himself and his wife, and the girl continues to stare...

I don't know the answer to your question, but I think this girl is Takeshi's reallife daughter, am I right?

She isn't meant to be his daughter, she's just a girl they are watching play.

Its mentioned earlier in the movie that their daughter is dead. The girl is takeshi's real life daughter. Maybe thats were the confusion lies?

I think the OP meant a vision of their daughter. But true, if the girl had continued playing that would confirm the theory; the way she stares shocked at what happend shows she is just a girl playing on the beach.

What makes you think that this was the decision? The end is opened. He surely could have shot the cops.

He surely could have shot the cops.

Surely that's possible if...
A) he's such a good shot he can kill 2 cops who are sitting in a car 100 yards away without breaking any glass
B) the cops were so slow on the draw that he could shoot once, wait 2 seconds and shoot again without anyone returning fire
or C) in the 3 seconds that the camera pans away from the beach, the 2 cops exit their car, run 100 yards and bow down execution style so he can shoot them slowly.

and D) the word "suicide" which was so prominent in the last 10 minutes didn't mean anything.

I think it was pretty clear. They showed him put two bullets in the gun. One for his wife and one for him. I'm also pretty sure, from the tone of his wife's speech that they had agreed to this prior.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!
