Why can´t swedes do action movies?

How come the swedish population always have to endure crappy action made by crappy movie makers, that believe they are in low budget Hollywood? Name one good swedish action movie and you´ll win a price!

reply

I know a TV-show, Ramona. It's great.

Give me the prize! :D

Otherwise, well sweden sucks when it comes to action. Sadly.
But to do good action you need money. And well, Hamilton cost 38 000 000kr, thats like 5 million dollars. Really low budget Hollywood-movies are often more expensive than that. We simply don't have the money. :)

i know one Beck Hämdens pris or in english Beck revenge

None of the above stated movies can be classed as both a) good and b) action. So no price will be awarded yet.

However I can announce the worst Swedish movie ever: "Farligt Förflutet" with Regina Lund. Every second in that movie is cheap, embarrassing and bad. Even "Hamilton" (a D- movie) seems like an A+ movie compared to "Farligt Förflutet" it’s so bad am afraid my keyboard will be cursed for typing it’s title.

Has anyone seen the movie "Rancid"?
It's not so much a action film as it is a thriller, but it's really good. The thing about that movie is that it's written and directed by Swedes, but the actors are American. So they don't speak Swedish but the film is still Swedish, you can tell in the sarcastic humour. That's Swedish humour for you. See the film and you'll know what I'm talking about.

If something tries to rip your throut out, I got you covered.

reply

Actually there are some Swedish actors in "Rancid".

reply

This movie is directed by a Norwegian, Harald Zwart is from Norway, and there are actors from many countries in the movie. Not only americans. Peter Stormare is originaly Swedish, Mats Långbacka is form Finland...

reply

Because, a action event that takes place in Sweden feels wrong. In a big country like USA it's possible. In little, secure Sweden, no.

Howcome Hollywood, with a budget 200 times bigger/actionmovie than that of a swedish actionmovie still only produce one good movie out of 100?
Hollywood actionmovies are usually crap. Actionmovies in general are usually crap.

I'm Norwegian, but the best Swedish action movie ever made must be "Thriller - en grym film (a cruel picture)". This movie is so hardcore that it's beyond belive. Even though it's from the 70's it still kicks ass.
If you haven't seen this one; do it. You'll be surprised.

Noll tollerans, Livvakterna, tredje vågen:D:D

I don't really think it's that hardcore. The only thing hardcore about Thriller - A Cruel Picture is the sexscenes, which are cut in from another movie. I did enjoy Thriller because of what it is though, a totally *beep* insane movie compared to others made in Scandinavia, but I don't think it's hardcore compared to other movies in the exploitation-genre. It's worth to mention though, but the version that's banned in most of Europe got a kick-ass cover.

reply

Well i think it's hardcore because it's a brutal plot. The planning of revenge. A preform it. It's not the grafics that impress me the most, though some of the scenes are extremly nice. Like the slow-mo, when the cops gets it, is fantastic. And the one with the eye getting cut, is also one of my favourites. Some claim that it's actually a realb corps, they're cutting in.

And I agree that the DVD cover is one of the coolest ever.

For a movie from the 1970's it's amazing, but if you compare it to todays revengemovies, like Kill Bill, it's not all that good. You got other movies dealing with the same subject too, like Lilja 4-ever, which is way better directed and acted out. But for a scandinavian movie from the 70's Thriller - A Cruel Picture is amazing.

reply

They can do action-movies, Hamilton was just like an American action.

Other good Scandinavian action-movies exist, like "Orions Belte", "Noll Tolerans", "Livvakterna" and the newest one, "Izzat". Izzat and "Orions Belte" are the only good Norwegian action-movies I've seen.

reply

Norway isn't really known for actionfilms. We got some good crime and thrillers though, like "Den som frykter ulven bør ikke gå ut i skogen" (Those who fear the wolf shouldn't walk out in the forrest). UNO is supposed to be brilliant, haven't seen it myself yet, got it in my shelf so I'm going to see it sometime soon.

Though this thread is about swedish action movies? :P

reply

because of the budget of course, how can you think that a small country like sweden with 9 million citizens can produce action movies that can be compared with those from hollyeood???

reply

you have not seen ninja misson best swedish action film ever
