Language Barrier?

I know that Europe is a multi-cultured area, most know the language of their nearby neighbors...and yet, to pick it up so fast as it was shown in this movie...makes me wonder. The Turks could speak Italian fluently, but the Italian's couldn't...they understood, but not speak it well. Well, the romantic language like Italian, and Spanish are easier than the Turkish language.
