What is the sequel to this movie?

I know I've heard of one. I just can't remember the name.

Maybe Harem Suare' (prequel) http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0179841/

Ma 9X9.....farà 81?

reply

There is not a sequel at all. In a certain way The other movies of Ozpetek are kind of sequels. All of them: Le Fate ignoranti, Harem Suare' and La Finestra di fronte, have his unique point of view abou sexuality and human desires.

Harem suaré is indeed the prequel- I don't want to spoil you anything, but one clue is the cigarette holder that Francesco inherits from his aunt (and that Marta uses in the last sequence)... it turns up again in Harem suaré and even if the two stories are very loosely linked, it is made clear by Ozpetek that H.S. is a kind of prequel to Hamam

Interesting...
Has anyone else noticed that in all his films (so far) there are loosely linked connections. Names of characters referred to (Anita, etc.) keep recurring. Also oblique references/connections to events described/occurred elsewhere. Almost as if the films sre revolving around one central story,or theme. Any ideas?
Also, anyone have any theories regarding the statuette of a woman that seems central to the film. At the moment of Francesco's murder, a shadow passses over it. It also keeps popping up throughout the film - most prominently when he first tours the run-down hamam. Been driving me mad for years, so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

since you can find autobiographic elements on all of his films, in a way all of them telling the different parts of the same story.

I clearly remember reading in an interview just after harem suare that it was the second movie in the trilogy. Even if fate ignoranti is his 3rd movie he never mentioned that it was a part of the trilogy. So it's up to you to decide.

I like to think that hamam's prequel is harem suare and its prequel is fate ignoranti.

So there's a trilogy? Are they available as a dvd boxset or something?

reply

not as a box set but they are available separately at amazon.
