Did anyone else only know of this film because of Harry Hill's TV Burp?

I only know this film exists because of Harry Hill's TV Burp. When he explains it, it sounds hilarious. When you watch the trailer, it looks like Donnie Darko meets What's Eating Gilbert Grape meets Wes Anderson on acid. Is it any good? I'm not really into "odd" films (although I've watched Tommy Wiseau's The Room more than once) but I'm considering watching this one just to understand why it's supposedly Simon Cowell's favourite film.
