Now THIS is a horror movie...

You can show me A Nightmare On Elm Street, Halloween, Psycho, Insidious, all these movies and they don't bother me one bit. This, however, is real horror. It's so realistic and disturbing.

Really guys? Ive never seen it, Im sorta on the edge of watching it. Is it that is so disturbing that its horror film. Its not classified as horror. Like Requiem for a Dream. I consider that as a horror film. So what makes Gummo so scary?

reply

It's not an horror film per se. I don't think of Requiem for a dream or Gummo as horror movies, it's just that they show very disturbing and realistic content in it and that's what makes them fall into the horror category I guess.

Horror? Hell no. Disturbing? Depends in what way. I feel that people in general exeggerate incredibly about this film. I read about horrible violence against cats, but thank god all these cats weren't alive anymore. If the poor animals had been alive while being hurt that way, feeling the pain....that would have added to the disturbing factor. But again, i am glad this wasn't the case. This movie really wasn't all that shocking to me. I don't get it what the big fuss is about.

^ You're obviously desensitised. If this film doesn't effect you, I'd call a psychologist pronto.

reply

Please....DO tell me that you are joking with that. I've seen so many messed up movies and experiences in my own life, no sorry, it did not really affect me at all. To be honest, i didn't feel a damn thing for most people in this movie. Strange huh? Considering they all were so charming, seemed so loving and loveable characters. Oh....wait.

One of the creepier and most disturbing non-horror movie.

There's something wrong with Esther.

The OP is right, but as for everyone else, for the wrong reasons.

This movie is a horror movie, but is effective, because.......

In a disaster.....and in hick areas all around the world.....this stuff ACTUALLY GOES ON.

And, it's just like the IMDB description of the movie: there is no hope, no evil, no good. Just a Nihilistic existence, as they all interact, waiting for their eventual deaths. Totally anti-everything we are brainwashed from birth, to believe about life.

Reality is usually the most effective form of horror, because unlike Hellraiser, or A Nightmare on Elm Street, you could wind up in a scenario, exactly like this.

"Hey, shut up in there, I'm trying to type....." OT: Do the voices in my head bother you?
