I saw this movie for the time yesterday and I really enjoyed it. I like fairy tales and I'm always interested to see different versionss. My question is why did Claudia curse everyone in the castle? What did she have to gain from it?

She's full of spite. The wicked queens just seem to be bad to people.

It was part of the sacrifice of Friedrich. His life for her son's. The staff obviously wouldn't willingly go along with such a thing, and so she cursed them all and placed them under her control.
