Yes, this was filmed in Indianapolis and the screenwriter/author Dan Wakefield grew up in the area, so that was a nice touch.
I recognized Union Station and Fountain Square, but does anyone else have information on some of the other shooting locations (the dance, the apartment, the school, etc.)
It's been a while since I've seen this movie, but I believe I thought the photo montage was shot at Shortridge (formerly a high school, now a junior high). Also, I believe at least some of the interiors for Sonny's house were filmed at a house at 53rd-ish and Delaware (I can't remember the exact address, but it's red brick with white pillars).
Buddy's house, if I remember correctly was just a couple blocks southwest of the exterior shots for Sonny's house. The interiors of Sonny's house were shot at Fort Ben after it was closed. The homes on the base were being renovated and put up for sale. One of the coolest things is Sonny's bathroom was built inside the room next to Sonny's bedroom. If you went into that other room, you could walk around the outer framing for his bathroom.
The interior of Nina's apartment was actually the inside of a house around like 71st and Washington or something. They were demolishing it as soon as we were finished shooting.
There were also deleted scenes shot at Meridian Hills Country Club (fight scene), Shannon's Roaring Twenties (topless club/fantasy scene), and the quarry in Bloomington (Gunner's intervention).
I still have all my call sheets with the different locations somewhere and have always wanted to put some sort of scrapbook together. It was a fun project to work on.
my cousin did the lighting on the movie, and i got to watch them film. they also filmed the train scenes at the railroad station in hamilton county which is north of indy. the scenes in the church were filmed out in the country around that area.
Wow, all those locations brought back great memories of working on this film and all the cool people I met in Indy. Grover54, I was one of the accountants (Peter) on the film. Who are you? Is "Essential Edibles" still around. I remember they made great sandwiches for a lot of the crew. I believe Elliott Hostetter's parents owned it.
