I'm amazed....

I'm amazed that there aren't any comments about this movie/monologue yet. I was touched by Julia's honesty and humor about such a stressful and painful time in her life. Her ability to relate that time in such a manner really spreads hope and shows a huge amount of inner strength on her part.

I gotta say...I randomly chose this movie to watch. Just saw it, and I think it's really good. I was surprised as well to find out about no other comments. :(

I agree. Try "Letting Go of God" too. Julia Sweeney is brilliant.

I just watched it randomly off Comcast On-Demand & it's a really great film. I appreciate Julia Sweeney so much more (I never really cared one way or the other before.)

I think it doesn't have a lot of distribution.
I had previously looked for it at Blockbuster and Hollywood video, and my local ones didn't have it.
I just got it off of Netflix.

A good movie, but "comedy" is a bit of a stretch. The story has funny moments, but it is not funny in a standup comedy sort of way. Which of course is fine.

Agreed SA, this was an incredible molologue, only the late Spauling Grey compares. How it's rated under 7 on IMDb is beyond me. I guess people expect a movie and then when they find out it's not, get pissed. Who knows. What I do know is that it moved me more than most films.

This is phenomenal, and if you think the film version is awesome, imagine being in the front row center of the one of the shows in the tour she did first. This really blew me away (both the stage performance and the film).

What is most impressive is I finally saw it on cable about a week before my Mom died... it came along at just the right time. I knew Mom was going to go soon, and all Julia's reassurances (seeing the performance again) helped so much.

Julia Sweeney not only puts her heart and soul into this performance, but she takes you into her most deepest moments over the passing of her brother from Lymphoma Cancer, but also through her own struggle with her own battle with Cervical Cancer (or "sympathy cancer" as her brother called it)
Having lost my own life partner from Non-Hodgkins Cancer, and me being a survivor of the same Cancer, this one woman show deals with the rollercoaster emotions that one goes through if they know somone who has Cancer or has passed away from Cancer. Julia Sweeney is able to put a very humorous spin on the whole subject matter with style and grace, that only Julia could possibly give to the subject matter.
A very heart warming film that will have you thinking of your own mortality, and what does life really mean to all of us.

I liked the bit where she talked about watching "In a Lonely Place" all through the night with her parents and brother. One of the few moments where she was reflecting on a cherished memory instead of telling a joke.

Pretty strange that Tarantino is listed in the "cast" when he only appears at end for about a couple seconds to give Sweeney a bouquet of flowers.
