shareSince the parents were divorced, apparantly, the mother had full custody of them, (he just had visitation rights) and thus only she could legally take them from school, since her name was on file as having legal custody of them, and his wasn't.

shareKind of odd, though, as every child has extra people who can pick-up their children from school in an emergency. Surely the noncustodial parent would still be one of the people on the list for days he picked them up for visitation. (She did threaten to sue for full custody so she didn't have it.) But, that would have ruined the plot so ignore that part. Lol.
