The monster michael turns into

I'm very much a fan of this film but i'm still wondering what the creature that the Maestro turns into and the one he turns the Mayor into is, some sites say it's sort kind of demon while the wikipedia entry says a 'dragon' for some reason.

I think it was a 'Ghoul' , well I used to think it was an orc like the ones from Lord of the Rings.
