Suspension of disbelief

It's a nice film, good and intriguing plot, well filmed as you would expect from Fincher but the level of s.o.d. that it requires from the viewer is "Saw"-like. Actually, watching the movie, it came to my head that this has the tone and complexity of a "Saw" film with an artistically gifted director behind the camera. Again, this isn't a bad thing since many of the best american films aren't exactly cinema verité, just a thought.

I liked Saw because the s.o.d paid off. One guy had to chop his leg for freedom, the other one is left to die, while the killer is right there infront of the eyes the whole time. But I hated the ending for The Game because the ending was a prank? So just imagine the ending for the movie "Saw"-but only this time the psychopath wakes up just before the other guy is about to hack off his legs, only to tell them how they shouldn't take their life for granted, and they live happily ever after. Wouldn't that ending have felt like a slap on the face for all the s.o.d?

Well, the idea behind the whole thing was to drag the Michael Douglas character down to earth in a quite obvious commentary about the complete detachment between these rich white men and their fancy houses, that can get anything they want with a phone call, and the real world. The suicidal act represented this emotional break and a wake up call that needed to be fulfilled by that ending - as long Douglas would jump perfectly into the right spot, as he did.

I understand the reason behind the prank, and the purpose it serves to the main character. In a sense the ending of the movie makes this whole movie a one big joke.

As i have said on a previous board.. No, its not a "prank" Its a wake-up call. The guy was turning into a selfish all-about-me A hole.. he needed this game (wake-up call)
